Professional Revolutionary tells the amazing and moving story of Saul Wellman, a child of Russian Jews who grew up in Brooklyn. A student activist and labor organizer, he volunteered for the Spanish Civil war and became a paratrooper in World War II. Twice wounded in battle, he was captured by and escaped from the Germans at Bastogne. He returned home to become a radical political leader and then, during the years of McCarthyism, was the lead defendant in Michigan’s most famous political trial. An outcast who spurned material rewards and security, Wellman eventually became an internationally honored mentor of younger political activists.
